I invite anyone posting to add to this thread. It is time we started disseminating useful information to the populace. I have seen too many quality athletes make poor or ill informed coaching decisions. I will add what information I can as it goes along.
Bobby Kersee - World Class TC, LA based
The man has owned every gold medal and American record from the 400 down. He absolutely owns the women's 100H right now. Michelle Perry, Joanna Hayes, Kerron Clement, Shawn Crawford, Allyson Felix, Natasha Hastings. Dawn Harper are just a few of his charges. He has coached Gail devers, Jackie Joyner Kersee.
John Smith - HSI, Los Angeles
Touted as the best sprint coach in the world, having coached Steve Lewis, Quincy Watts, Maurice Greene, Ato Boldon, Jon Drummond, Marie Jose Perec, Torri Edwards, Inger Miller, and most recently David Neville. A strong task master, as is Bobby, he produces on the big stage and had people on every major team since 1988. Current roster is Torri, Carmelita Jeter, David, Leroy Dixon, John Steffensen to name a few.
Darrell Smith - DSports, Los Angeles
Spent 1992 -2002 as an assistant coach in HSI. He has coached and lived in Saudi Arabia (2000-2004, in part 2008) serving as the sprint coach. Currently coaches Tasha Danvers, Ryan Wilson, Candice Davis, Jonathan Williams and Kai Kelley. Making his camp a hurdle camp but he is not angling to just be a hurdle coach.
Monty Stratton - Dallas???
Known for his sprint corps from TCU, and currently for developing Darvis Patton from a 26 foot long jumper to a member of the 2008 Olympic team in the 100. Current athletes include Doc Patton and Leonard Scott
Pat Henry and Vince Williams - Texas A&M
College coaches with a strong sprint and hurdle crew led by Wallace Spearman, and Muna Lee. Aries Merritt also trains down in College Station. Pat and Vince have a decorated history of world class collegiate sprinters and hurdlers. Pat was the head coach at LSU when they rattled off 11 straight titles.
Brooks Johnson - Florida
The Godfather. The ultimate task master. If you are of tender skin you will lose it under Brooks. he knows what it takes and how to get you there if you listen. He has been putting various athletes on Olympic teams since the 60s. his prize pupil today is David Oliver. Along with David there is Joel Brown, Aubrey Herring, Jackie Edwards, Xavier Carter, Tiffany Williams amongst others. his experience is invaluable and his ability to coach is formidable.
Jon Drummond - Dallas???
The Consultant. A former sprinter under the tutelage of John Smith, he has transiioned well into the "coaching" I mean consulting ranks. Added on as a start specialist to Tyson Gay's team, he proved to be the pivotal element in Gay's championship year. Since that summer he has picked up Marshevette Hooker, guiding her to her first Olympic team, last year, and now has added Mechelle Lewis to his roster.
Dennis Mitchell - Clermont, Florida
Amy Deem - Miami Florida, The U
Please add names and/or descriptions. I will try to add what I know if I know anything. This is just to get it started...
