Looking at that first round in the 100 there are a few interesting match ups ...
Derrick Atkins and Asafa Powell in heat three .. They finished 2, 3 in '07 ... Doubt we see either on the podium this time around ..
Rae Edwards and Dwain Chambers in heat 4 .. Both could be fighting to be in the top half of the final ..
Ron Pognon and Simeon Williamson in heat 7 .. Pognon was supposed to be the future of European sprinting, Williamson could be ...
Tyrone Edgar and Richard Thompson in heat 10 .. Edgar a promising Brit, Thompson last year's silver medalist (won't medal this time) ..
Won't get real heated, but one or two of these could try and "race" each other !!!

I watched it live on the Universal Sports feed ... Then had to take a nap !!!
Good stuff .. Powell shut down in mid race after blazing out and almost missed qualifying ... Atkins is already out - looked like crap .. Bolt looked easy .. Actually got a good start ... Tyson looked tentative at the start then qualified easy .. Bailey, Edwards, Patton, and Rodgers all had mediocre starts then moved through the field ..
That's the quick and easy version ...

Just looked at the numbers and Tyson had a .194 RT !!! Bolt was .141 and Powell was .120 ...

Quarterfinals are up .. Almost had our first ever quarterfinal with all sub10 PR's - 1 short ..
Heat 3 has Powell, Patton, Fasuba, Collins, Francis, Pognon, and Burns ...
But the dangerous heat, and one where we could see a casualty is heat 5 ... Bailey Bolt, Williamson, Edwards, Martina ... Three to go only 1 fastest time to move on ..

The women looked ok earlier. No surprises. Too bad Martina and Williamson got eliminated.
The men's semis should be hot. Gay and Powell in the same semi with Chambers and thompson and Frater and Edwards. Hot.

This track I was lead to believe was slow! but my views changed when watching the women's 400m where sub 50 became the norm.
The burn up in Berlin looks like it will continue!

I agree Kermit .. 49 mid in a round is Marita Kochish ... But who said the track was slow Boldon did on tv but he hasn't run on this surface .. Look at the rounds in the 100's - men and women .. several 10.9's for the women .. Easy looking 9.9's for the men .. That track obviously has some return to it .. The women go at it today .. Four woman race - maybe .. Fraser is start dependent .. She nails it she's in the mix .. If not its a three woman race .. Stewart looks the favorite to me because she has the longest stride pattern .. Jeter and Campbell are working their turnover .. Will take 10.8 to medal, and 10.7 to win ... And after watching what I've seen so far could go 10.6 high ...

Everyone looking, no one talking ... Everyone afraid to say what's on their mind ?? Obviously lots to discuss .. Caster Semenya .. Personally I'm less offended by her stuggles with identity than I am with blatant drug cheats .. IAAF .. Way too much meddling in this meet .. They need to stay out of the federation's business and let them run themselves .. Their job is to ensure that rules are being followed ... Not telling federations what to do ... The meet itself has been boring to me .. How about some of you ?? Yes we've had a couple of World Records .. But there have been few real match ups .. A lot of average performances ... And the meet overall has lacked something ... I mean, is anyone even excited about Merritt v Pookie at this point The deuce ... Unbelievabolt ... Pity that Tyson was unable to go ... Only because it would have been interesting to see where he and Bolt both ended up as that was a solo run ... No Robles and Terrence still got silver ... I felt for Demus ... Everyone talking about how good Clement looked ... Folk forget he ran 47.2 in back to back seasons ... He should have been chasing Kevin Young ...

The only one scared is you. Semenya is another black mark on the sport and not because she may have man dna, but because we have been completely insensitive to the issue and her. There was a better way to handle it publicly but what else is new for the IAAF and pr issues IAAF? Yes too afraid to speak on what I feel about it. When did the IAAF move to England and name a queen? I mean what the hell were they doing in Jamaican business to begin with? I mean deny the request and make up a ruling but to call a meeting and send out a press release that says do it for the betterment of the sport is a head scratcher. How was it better for the sport? Was Kerron winning in 10.75 not good enough? Or 9.93 not fast enough for bronze. Is 52.98 not fast enough to win the 400H? It was just insulting to read that reasoning. The meet was exciting but faded some after the sprints, but I always think that happens. I actually enjoyed it. Pissed about the dq, and I think the Brits showed their shortcoming where competing comes. You do not look for ways to eliminate your comp, ala Carl Lewis lol, you line up and beat their ass anyway. I did not feel for Demus. She won silver and ran her second sub 53. She should smile about it No words for TT Clement looked good because he went 13s and did not chop. He commanded the race every round, but you are right there was little inspiring about the run

Now you know me better than that .. Never scared, sometimes cautious!! LOL
The IAAF has created cluster f*ck after cluster f*ck over the past couple of seasons .. and clearly the only way that they know how to market the sport is via times .. And in their world there can only be one top athlete or one top country at a time in this sport ..
When in reality those sports that have proven the test of time and eclipse everything in their path are those sports that have a pleathora of stars that create multiple universal cross appeal ... Magic Johnson needed Larry Bird ... Yin need Yang ... Ali needed Frasier ... Solo acts just don't play well - or for long - in sports !!! But the IAAF, archaic as it is, hasn't a clue ...
That's #1 ...
I complained last year about their interfereing in affairs by allowing certain areas not to drug test then saying "don't worry, we'll handle it" .. Their interfereing has become more open and blatant as they now simply control team rosters !!! It no longer matters what your qualifying standards or rules are - they will see that who they want will represent who they want them to represent ...
No my friend, no fear here, just mounting anger at blatant BS being shoveled our way as "Good for the Sport" ...
